Peter Theobald was born in Winterbach, Prussia Nov 11,1838 and came to the United States about 1857 with his family. He married Minnie Schwartzkoph and they settled in Titusville, PA in 1870, where they raised their seven children.

Peter was a proprietor of a restaurant and saloon in Titusville in the 1870s. He later founded a small oil refinery, which was absorbed by Standard Oil, at which time he founded the Independent Oil Refining Company of Oil City.

Peter died in Titusville on Oct 21, 1918.
