Ludwig Emmel

Ludwig Emmel

Ludwig Emmel, also known as Louis Emmel. He was born Sept 28, 1845 in Germany and emigrated to Pittsburgh in 1869.

He died April 13, 1923 while living at 2127 Jane St., Pittsburgh, 16th ward. At the time of the 1900 census, he lived at 506 Bingham St., Pittsburgh, South Side.

The photo was taken in 1915 by William Emmel, son of Ludwig Emmel and father of the submitter. The location is unknown, but Ludwig is sitting on a wood pile on what looks like a farm reading a book. The book would have been in German since, although he spoke English, he never learned to read or write English.
