Samuel R. Kistler Brobst, Rev. was born 16 Nov 1822 in Kistler Valley, Lynn Twp, Lehigh Co, PA, and died 23 Dec 1876 in Allentown, Lehigh Co, PA. He was buried in Union/West End Cemetery, Allentown, Lehigh Co, PA.

He was the son of Jacob F. Brobst and Lydia "Leah" Kistler. He married Maria Elisabeth Ritter 17 Nov 1853 in St. Paul's Church, Allentown, Lehigh Co, PA.

Famous Lutheran minister, co-founder and first president of Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA. Clergyman, publisher, and pioneer in the Sunday School movement. One of his students was President James Garfield as a pupil in a German language school he taught in in Ohio.
