David Harclerode

David Harclerode

David Harclerode was born Mar 4, 1809, the son of John Henry Harclerode III and Julia Cogan.

His military pension records list his occupation as that of a farmer, 5ft 6in in height with gray eyes and dark hair. David enlisted August 13, 1862 and was mustered in to serve under Captain William McGraw and Colonel Jacob Williams in Company E, 125th Regt., Pa. Volunteers Infantry. After a forced march to South Mountain he was wounded at the battle of Antietam and "compelled to lie out of doors four days and nights before being sent to a hospital." David was married Jan 31, 1864 to Mary Wyles, the daughter of Samuel Wyles and Hannah Ritchey and had five children: Shannon Oliver born June 26, 1870, Samuel Francis born Jan 9, 1865, David Franklin born Oct 14, 1872, Hannah Elizabeth born July 31, 1875, and Joseph Ranson born June 21, 1878.

Except for brief moves to Missouri and Illinois, David and Mary lived in Everett, Pa. and are buried there.
