Five Beardstown Brothers Serve Uncle Sam: WW11

Pictures that Mr and Mrs. Charles Smith of Beardstown, Illinois are the most proud to display are those of their five sons, enlisted men in the United States Army. All but one of the five Smith boys have been fiven rank in teh army and the fifth has been in the service just nine weeks. Vernon Smith has recently been advances from second to first lieutenant in the air corps and is now adjutant of the fifth school squadron at Chanute field. Lieutenant Smith, 21 years of age won a second lieutenant's commission by attending Citizen's Military training camps four years. He enlisted in teh army on march 15, 1941.
Otis Smith, 32 years old and the oldest of the brothers holds the rank of sergeant and is now atending officers training school at Fort Benning, Georgia. he enlisted December 12, 1940 sd s private. Corpral Charles O. Smith, who is 30 years, enlisted March 5, 1941, and is now stationed at Camp Forest, Tullahoma, Tennessee. Sergeant Louis W. Smith is stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas as a flying cader. Private Dan Smith is at Camp Robinson, Arkansas.WW11
