Florence Ivory in her Dental Office

Hello Gayle,

I am the Curator/Director of the Sindecuse Museum of Dentistry at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Our Health Sciences Librarian, Mark MacEachern, discovered your genealogy entry with the photo of Dr. Florence Ivory and her dental assistant. I checked our dental school list of graduates just in case and did not find her. I am assuming she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Dentistry program. Like us, they likely have a graduation picture of her if you are interested. You can also trace the history of her practice locations through the Polk Dental Registers, a national directory of licensed dentists. Some of the on-line genealogy databases have copies of those directories as part of the their collections too.

I am writing to you because I would also like to receive a copy of this image. We have a nice large format scanner and if you feel comfortable we could borrow the original and return it. Or, if you scanned it already for the other museum, we could just receive a copy via CD in the mail. TIF format is too large for email. We hope to create an exhibit about women in dentistry in the US. There are so few images of female dentists however, so it may take us some time to pull it together. Of course we would provide credit. I can also pay for any shipping costs as necessary.

Please feel free to contact me via email directly to make arrangements:

Thank you so much,
Shannon O'Dell
