Jacob Hess

Jacob Hess

Jacob Hess was born in 1837, the son of James Hess (born 1810 in Germany) and Permia Cooper (born 1820 in PA). Jacob's siblings were: Scott born 1838, Jermamiah born 1839, Rolla born 1844, William born 1846, James born 1848. According to the family bible, the Hess children were all born in Scioto-Leo, Ohio. This is also verified in the 1850 Ohio Census. This census lists a John Hess born 1826 in Germany, in the same household. They were christened German Methodist.

Jacob Hess married Amanda Eleanor York, who was born in Terra Haute, IN.

Jacob served in the Civil War, and is shown here in uniform.

Both Jacob and Amanda are buried at Tioga, Adams Co., IL, not far from their home.
