Howard Shoup and Richard King

Howard Shoup and Richard King

Howard Shoup, left, and Richard King sitting in chair. Photo taken in Clarion County in 1918 according to writing on back.

Howard Shoup was born 6 April 1902 in St. Petersburg, Clarion County, PA, to Charlie Shoup and Elizabeth Stubble Shoup. He lived there until the early 1920's then went into the army and served in the Hawaiian Islands for 3 years.

He began writing Leona Fulkerson in Texas during this time and married her in 1925. He remained in Texas for the rest of his life but always missed his childhood home.

When I was a child, I went with her grandfather to his childhood home to meet my great grandparents, Charlie Shoup and Lynn Stubble.  Lynn Stubble lived to be over 100 years old.  Other lines in the Shoup family are Stubble, Frye, Hulings, Best and Coursin.

Submitted by Sherry Givens Ohern, granddaughter of Howard and Leona Fulkerson Shoup
