Emma, wife of Augustus, also grew up in Pinegrove Township. They had a girl - Hattie, And they had 4 boys named - James, Jacob, William and Robert. In those times farmers sometimes didn't send their girls to school. Emma could not read or write.
She signed with an X. She and Augustus were married on January 10, 1887 in Oil City, Pennsylvania. Emma and Augustus attended the Heckathorn Church. To compensate for Emma's lack of schooling, Hattie attended at least until the 8th grade.
Hattie was the Executrix of Augustus estate and more. Emma lost a brother in the Civil War.
