William R. Grace was the son of Burchfield and Rebecca Albin Grace of Worth Township. He enlisted in Company G, 100th Pennsylvania Volunteers, called the "Roundhead" Regiment on 31 Aug 1961.
According to the History of Mercer County, 1888: "This family were intensely loyal, there being five brothers in the army at one time, and the eldest John, was drafted, but was let off on account of having so many brothers there."
William R. Grace's brothers: John, of Worth Township; E.C. who was a member of Co. A., 139th PA Volunteers and killed at the Battle of the Wilderness; Henry L, S.C., a member of Co. G, 10th PA Reserve Corps who died in NY after participating in Sherman's march; and James, a member of Co. G, 10th PA Reserve Corps, who was wounded at Gaines Mill and later became a farmer in Wolf Creek Township.
William R. Grace settled in Fairview Township.
