Arnold, Pa. and old building

Hi Steven, Yesterday I received and e-mail saying someone had responded to my inquiry. I was surprised to see you wrote the inquiry in Aug and I'm just now getting it. We must be returning to the pony express days. :)

This picture was among some old pictures that belonged to one of my great aunts, Bessie Violet Chaney, and may have been made in 1924 or 1925. I'm only guessing at the date. Aunt Bessie was the one in the family who owned a camera and I found a number of pictures that a young, unmarried working woman would take. By the time this picture was taken she may have been married to her first husband, James A. Shiarella.

I've often wondered why Aunt Bessie had this picture and why members of my family were at this building. I thought learning the name of the building would explain it but it hasn't. From a couple of close up pictures, I know the lady with the light colored strip on the front of her dress, was my maternal grandmother, Suphronia Dee Chaney Hamilton. She is holding my mother, Earlabon Irene Hamilton Laughlin Warhola. I'm guessing the others in the picture are members of my family. Aunt Bessie had lots of friends and I wonder if there was an event held at this building and my aunt and her family were invited.

Back in Nov. 2010 I sent a number of my aunt's old pictures and other things to Justin Greenawalt at the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Historical Society-Heritage Museum. I must of sent him some scanned copies to see if he was interested and I was surprised that he was working or volunteering at the museum as he thought one of the pictures was from the 1860's and he didn't know the word "tin mill". He did request as much information that I could provide on the names of people. I also sent that. Since I never received a responds, I can only assume he or the museum recieved the items I sent.

I hope I have helped in some way and may be you might know why my family was at the building. My e-mail address is

Thank you., Lona B.
