Miss Ella Genora Hammer and Her Class

Ella Genora Hammer was a school teacher at the Walnut Grove School, Johnstown, Cambria Co PA, and she and the principal Warren S. Krise fell in love. On 7 September 1893 at her parents' home in Roxbury, Johnstown, PA, she married Warren Samuel Padget Krise. To this union eleven children were born: Lois Georgeen, married to John Frank Sharpe, Sr.; Ruth Josephine, died at the age of twenty-two (never married); George Washington William, married to 1) Mary Elizabeth Wettergreen (divorced), 2) Helen Novisher Corbin (divorced), 3) Rose Mary Sweeney Weaver; Fred Warren, married to Alice Rita Hughes; Walter Alden "Ben," married to 1) Mary Belle Yoder (divorced), 2) Dorothy Eulalia Fichtner (divorced); Harry Joseph, married to Agnes Anna Riek; Charles Hannan, married to Florence Dorcus Ashcom; Elizabeth Mae, married to Coy Elga Hott; Son Krise, born and died on same day; John Andrews, married to Mary Freda Crissman Bender; and Mary Isabelle, married to Richard Howard Downey. Students are not identified. This photo is pre 1893 because married women were not allowed to teach at that time.
