Wow, I would almost swear that this is a photo of my greatgrandfather Doctor DeVoe/Devoe he was a Doctor/surgeon and practised in the 1850's in Ilinois all parts of the state, Iowa Black Hawk area, Des Moines, later 1876-1900 the became the North Dakota State Medical Examiner and in 1900 retired to Chicago Illinois to do reseach on Vaccines to cure cancer and other deseases of the time. He was known as : Doctor Harley DeVoe, Frank Henry DeVaux, Doctor Francis Devoe and F.H.Devoe/DeVaux. There is extensive information and photos of him at the Barnes County Museum in Valley City, North Dakota. I would be happy to email you photos of him.He was quite well known and traveled extensively helping all sorts of people rich/poor and was a friend in kind to all sorts of people. Perhaps he was a family friend of your family. I would love to know the answer! Perhaps someone in your family will recall a story of a doctor friend.
