Redding Burns

Redding Beatty Burns. b. August 27, 1810 in Mauch Chunk, Bucks Co., Pa. d. January 1, 1888 Woodcook Twnshp. Redding came to the Meadville area in 1828 w/ his parents and siblings. As a boy Redding worked with his father building the first railroad in the U.S. A nine mile stretch of wooden track which ran from the coal mines to the river. The cars were drawn by mule from the river to the mines. The return trip was by gravity.
