John J. Murphy-Jones

John J. Murphy (changed to Jones 1870, back to Murphy sometime after 1879) taken about 1909 at his home. Shown with second wife, Mary Cavanaugh, and unknown children (grandchildren?)
b. abt. 1840 Ireland or England
immigrated to NY 1870 with first wife, Eliza Goodhugh Jones.
d. abt. 1911.
Note his large size - the Catholic cemetery would not allow his burial because it required an oversized lot, according to family lore.
John Jones was superintendent of construction for the Corcoran Art Building (now the Renwick) in Washington DC abt 1873.
