John Riley Pitzer

John Riley Pitzer, photo taken about 1891, the year he first attended McPherson College.

John was born September 9, 1869, near Roanoke, Lewis Co., West Virginia, and died August 2, 1940, Bartlesville, Washington Co., Oklahoma. John's younger years was spent near Postoak, Jack Co., Texas. At the age of 22, in 1891 he entered The Church of the Brethren College at McPherson, Kansas, were he met and married Annie Elizabeth Bower, May 23, 1894. After College John and Annie were farmers, first in Barton Co., Kansas, and then in 1897, they traveled by horse and wagon to Southwest Oklahoma territory, near Cordell, Washita Co., Oklahoma, still farming, all the while. John ministered for The Church of the Brethren. John formed and preached at several Brethren Churches in Oklahoma. Some of them were Cordell, Oklahoma City, Bartlesville, and Garber, Oklahoma.
