This photo was taken of the Beech Grove School children on April 15, 1912. My grandmother, Edna Bowman Smale is on the far right.
The school was on Township Road 80 between Walnut Grove and Blanchard. It was rescued by the Hardin County Historical Society and moved.
Beech Grove Schoolhouse
Is one of the few remaining examples of scholastic wood frame architecture in Ohio. Erected in Cessna Township circa 1869 and rebuilt in 1893, it was rescued by the Hardin Co. Historical Society and moved to its present site. The building evokes the bygone days of the one-room schoolhouse when "readin', 'ritin' and 'rithmetic were taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick." It is open during Pioneer Craft Days, the last weekend in September. or to groups by appointment.
