According to "Camera Clues" by Joe Nickell, postcards from before 1907 have only space for the address on the back and a space for the message at the bottom front, while ones from 1907 and later are divided for the message and address. However, sometimes postcards after 1907 have spaces at the front when the image is so large that making it fit the whole front would trim too much off the edges. The only way to be sure in this case is to see if the back is divided or not.
