Mary Mahill Secrest b. 1821 in KY and John Underwood were married in 1862 in Mahaska Co., Iowa. After his death, she went west where her son had found her first husband Michael Secrest in Idaho.
John's second known wife was Phebe (Decker Newman?) Mayer b. 1811 in Virg. and moved as a child or young woman to Lanesville Harrison Co., IN where she possibly married a Mr. Newman, then Nicholas Mayer a recent emigrant from France and her deceased sister Emaly's husband in 1837.
After 1850 and Nicholas's death Phebe moved her family to Mahaska Co., Iowa where she married John Underwood in 1853. Phebe died in 1860 and is buried at Crain Cemetery also.
