James Madison Ellis/Walter Ellis--Rev. War Soldier

James Madison Ellis was my GG grandfather. He was in the Civil War. He also served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1868 - 1870. Records indicate the following:

Walter Ellis, B. 1750 In NC D 1821 in Georgia----fought in Revolutionary War
father of James Ezra Ellis, father of James Madison Ellis, father of Joseph Pickens Ellis, father of Joseph Henry Ellis, father of Ouida Jane Ellis, mother of Shirley Thompson.

Joseph Pickens Ellis was married to Sarah Lucinda Jane Powell. We were able to document through Lucinda Jane Powell to Letitia Kneal to Cynthia Kell to James Kell---fought in Revolutionary War. I am in the DAR and have been researching for other Rev. War ancestors.

Walter Ellis

Hello, James E Ellis is my 4th great grandfather. I'm in the DAR and am looking to add a supplemental line to Walter Ellis. I'm having trouble finding marriage info for James E. Ellis and Nancy. Do you have any suggestions on where I can look?
Thanks, Cindy

James E. Ellis and Nancy

I am also descended from James Ezra Ellis and Nancy. He was my GG grandfather. It would be great to make the connection with Walter Ellis. I, too, am in the DAR this way:

Joseph Henry Ellis---Lucinda Jane Powell Ellis---Lettie Smith Powell--Cynthia Kell Smith, Letitia Kneal Kell--married James Kell who served in Rev. War.

I will look through my notes to see if I see anything connecting James E. Ellis to Walter and let you know.

James Ezra Ellis connection to Walter Ellis

Cindy,

I searched the Ellis DNA project and found a DNA connection between Walter and James E. Ellis. I will paste below.

Another way you can prove that Walter was James's father is get a copy of James's death certificate. I have one for Joseph Pickens Ellis which shows the names of the deceased mother and father and where they were born.

You can Google Ellis Surname DNA Project for a better copy.

If you can locate James tombstone, it may have his father's name on it---sometimes they did.

James E. Ellis and DAR

Cindy,

James E. Ellis is my 3rd great grandfather. I, too, am in the DAR through James Kell who was an ancestor of Lucinda Jane Powell who married Joseph Pickens Ellis.

I found a copy of Joseph Pickens Ellis's death certificate and the mother and father are listed on it. He died in 1933. I am looking for a connection from James Madison Ellis to James E. Ellis so I can add Walter Ellis, 1750 - 1821. Sometimes a tombstone has the information you need--DAR will accept a picture of a tombstone. Someone has Walter's Bible.

I will see what I can find on Nancy McClure and James E. Ellis's marriage and let you know if you will send me your e-mail address. If you run across anything on James Madison Ellis and James E. Ellis, please share.
