John Wesley Banks, Iowa

John Wesley Banks, Iowa

Late 1880s photo most probably of John Wesley Banks. Born in 1833-4 in North Carolina, father Charles Banks. Married to Elizabeth Hamilton Banks. Father of Theodocia Banks. We have confirmation through another descendant having the same pictures that this is John Wesley Banks. He was married in Indianna but spent most of his life in the Warren and Jasper counties of Iowa. Died in Dec. 1901 in Jasper, Iowa.

I am looking for some Banks

I am looking for some Banks family. My great grandmother was Mary Melissa Banks (I think I am correct on her full name), She married a Beanblossom, not sure of his full name. They ended up in or around the Alamogordo, New Mexico area.

Banks relation

I was referred to your photo from someone that saw my data and your photo of John Wesley Banks. I cannot confirm the photo but can confirm that John Wesley Banks b. 1833, NC, USA was married to Elizabeth, b. abt 1830 KY, USA. I have them having at least 4 daughters: Louisa, Sarah J, Articia, and Thodocia (spelling?). My family connects to this family through daughter Articia who married John Wesley Hester, b. 1859 in IL.
Kind regards,
Laura in Minnesota

Re: John Wesley Banks family

I sure do hope to hear back from you! I have been trying for several years to connect with someone in this family. I (and many others in my family) believe that our great-grandmother was the daughter of Articia's sister, Theodocia, who died Feb. 8, 1890 from childbed fever. Because John Wesley's wife, Elizabeth, had also died that prior Dec., the baby was given to a couple named Griffin to be raised. My grandmother remembered her mother receiving a letter from an "Aunt Tish" in about 1918 telling her of her natural family. Shortly afterward, our gr-grandma (Marguerite Griffin Sollis- aka Margaret Ann Banks) took a trip to Iowa to meet family. She never was the talkable type and never really told her children much about this (being born out of wedlock - also, her father was supposed to be Irish and named Robert Lee). Our grandma could not really remember the first name her mother's mother had since it was different, but remembered the last name of Banks. After Marguerite died, grandma found these pictures she said her mother told her were of her own mother and grandparents (no writing on backs). Grandma also found the obit for John Hester - which could only have come to her mother by mail since she lived in SLC, UT. We have put it all together but are looking for some family records for confirmation.
