Silk City Band, Belding, mi

Nice to see this photo. I hadn't been able to come across a good shot of a Belding band. My grandparents, EV and Anna McNally, moved there in 1909, from Pennsylvania silk mills. EV worked in the Mills for years, then after the Mills closed in 33, he was elected Mayor for 2 terms. He and Anna managed the Hotel Belding until it closed in 1943.
My mother, Helen E. McNally Rafferty was born there in 1909. I have a number of photos of the mills and documents.

Belding pics

Hi Wendy, no I haven't heard anything about a movie about Belding. Does Belding have a page on Facebook? I do have a number of photos on line at the Ionia county Genweb site, or I email you some from my hard drive. I am on Facebook also.

Belding Clock Tower

David, are you aware of the campaign to save the Belding clock tower. They are trying to establish a historic district to protect it. I sure they would be very happy to see the photos you have. They are on Facebook under "Save Belding's Clock Tower"

Belding Clock tower

I had heard of the threat to the clock tower. I'll check out their page and see what I can do.

Silk City???

Recently my father talked to me about a ghost and a vision he had. The ghost may be Earl Harrison, the vision was while he was in Belding and may be related to a "Silk City" girl. I'm looking for someone with information about the history of the silk industry and the girls who worked there.
