Christopher Shoe, Nancy Forgey Shoe, and other family members

Christopher Shoe, Nancy Forgey Shoe, and other family members

This portrait probably dates from the early 1890's in Appleton City, St. Clair County, Missouri. Christopher Shoe is the first on the left in the front row. Nancy Forgey Shoe, wife to Christopher, is the second on the left in the back row. Third from the left is believed to be Chris' brother Jacob Shue with his wife, Hannah Fridley Shue, fourth from the left in the back row. Others in the portrait may include brother Louis Shoe and sister Caroline Shoe Hess.

Jacob Shue and Hannah

Jacob Shue and Hannah Fridley Shue are in my Fridley family tree :) Thank you for the picture

Date Correction

From the style of the women's clothing, this would definitely be from the 1890s, probably circa 1893-1894 judging from the women's sleeve sizes, though it is always harder to tell on older people who tend to be dressed more conservatively. See "Victorian Costume for Ladies" by Linda Setnik. That is one of the best books of clothing in old pictures, in my experience.

Photo Date

Thanks for your input. I appreciate another set of eyes. I had trouble deciding on a date range for this photo, since some key figures looked too young for it to date into the 1890's. But on second thought, its possible. With hair dye, no suntan wrinkles, and people trying not to smile during the portrait (no smile wrinkles); I imagine your date estimate is pretty close.
Thanks again,
