This portrait may be one of Johann Fastabend, daughter Josephine, son Joseph, and Johann's second wife Gertrud Mische. It is possible the portrait was taken shortly before their 1876 immigration to the United States. Family members absent from the portrait include, Gertrud's young son, Wilhelm A. Fastabend, as well as the older children by Johann's first wife Catharina Mische.
