Alex Ayotte was born in Quebec, moved to Wells, Vermont as a child, and served in the Civil War.
When his wife Caroline died he went to Montana where he was Deputy US Marshall.
He married Jenny Brown of Chicago and had 2 daughters, Ellen and Ethel. He died 1893 in Chicago.
