John Wesley Smith was born January 22, 1862, in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He was the son of Jeremiah Webb Smith and Sarah Jane Spurling. He married Cora Bell Boone January 6, 1889, in Rutherford County, North Carolina. John and Cora owned and operated the Smith Hotel, located in Forest City, Rutherford County, North Carolina. John died April 23, 1933. Both, John, and Cora, are buried at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rutherford County, North Carolina.
