This photograph of the first band in Fremont, Ohio shows a typical small-town band. Fred Fabing and George Held organized it in 1859 with twelve members. All of the members are identified (left to right): J.G. Spicher, H. Nelhi, Fred Fabing, F. Faller, Phil Zimmerman, Godfried Gephard; Adam Hodes (bass drum) and Ed Schertinger (snare drum).
