Johann Nicholas Haerig (John Herrick) was born in Baden, Prussia, Germany (probably from a small town by the name of Niederbieber) 2 Aug 1820. He was the son of Christian Wilhelm Haerig and Anna Catherina Wagner. John married Catherine Maria Rub 12 Feb 1852 in Maxsain, Nassau-Hessen, Prussia. Two years later the couple immigrated to the United States. They settled in Washington Township, Richland County, Ohio - arriving just a month before the birth of their first child. John and Maria had six children: William (born 12 Mar 1854), Emma Wilhelmina (born 19 Oct. 1856), Mary (born 10 Oct 1859), Anna G. (born 13 Sep 1862), Helene (born 8 Jun 1866), and John C. (born 7 Apr. 1870). John Herrick died 8 Dec 1910 and is buried in the German Cemetery in Washington Township, Richland County, Ohio. His wife, Marie died 17 Aug. 1908 and is also buried in that same cemetery.
