Josie was the daughter of Mary Jane Owen. Her stepfather was Thomas Jefferson Smith. She married Alexander Lorett. They came to Oklahoma in the landrun and lived on a farm in Yale, Oklahoma. They had seven sons. She was born in Braymer, Missouri on 19 Oct 1871. She died in 1954 in Oklahoma.
