Misha "Samuel" & Celia (Kelmanovitch) Krichesky immigrated to Oregon City, Oregon from Izmail, Odessa, Ukraine (AKA Akkerman, or Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, as it is known today). Their first two children, Esther and Libbie, were born in Oregon.

The family became homesick, so relatives in Ukraine sent them money to return home. Their next three children (Louis, Fritzie, & Boris) were born in Ukraine.

After the pogroms in Akkerman (one on November 5, 1905 and a second more devastating one on November 24, 1905, according to the American Jewish Year Book, Vol. 8 1906-1907), the family returned to Oregon, bringing with them Misha's parents (possibly Schloima & Beyla?) and his niece Doris. Doris's father was Misha's brother. Her mother had died young and her father remarried to a woman who did not want Doris, so Misha and Celia raised her as their own.

According to Ellisisland.org, Celia, Misha, Schloima, Beyla, Esther, Libbie, Louis, Fritzie, Boris, and Doris departed Antwerp, Belgium on the ship Finland and arrived in New York on March 26, 1906. Upon entering the U.S. they continued on to Portland.

Celia was born 15 Jan 1877 in Bilhorod-Dnistrovs'kyy, Ukraine and died 26 Aug 1968 in Portland, Clackamas, Oregon, USA.

She is pictured here with 2 of her grandchildren, Louis E. Krichesky & Anne (Krichesky) Patterson, abt 1941.
