The family lived in Marienville, Forest County. Hugh served as postmaster from 1893 to 1900. He also served as Forest County Commissioner from 1909 to 1912. Katharyn served as postmistress from 1915 to 1925. In 1915 she built a new building to house the post office. In 1926 she converted the building into the Red & White grocery store from which the McClellan family served the community for over 40 years until a new building was built.
