George Ernst Sandtner and friend

The man standing is my great-grandfather (and immigrant ancestor), George Ernst Sandtner (spelled Santtner in the 1880 census). I don't know the name of the seated gentleman, but it's possible that he is a brother-in-law to George. George was listed as a miner at Clinton, Big Beaver (now New Beaver) Township, Lawrence Co, PA, in the 1880 census. Listed with him was his wife, Johanna (Daum) Sandtner, daughter Mary and two month old son, George. George and his wife emigrated from Austria between 1872-1874.

Photo taken by S. M. Gillespie, photographer, at New Castle sometime between 1872 and 1884.
