Effie Angeline Gleason Holmes

Effie Angeline Gleason Holmes

Effie Angeline Gleason, daughter of William Brown Gleason and Caroline Dewey Stone Gleason, was born Apr 23, 1855 in Conneautville, PA. From History of the M. E. Church of Conneautville. PA, by Hon. W. S. Crozier, read the last services in the old church, Dec 16, 1877:
An incident occurred that I will not soon forget. After writing the names of twelve converts that desired to join on probation, and the book closed, Effie A. Gleason, now wife of the Rev. N. H. Holmes, and but eleven years old at the time, said in the simplicity of her heart and with tears in her eyes, “Pa, may I join.” The question was answered by another, “Most assuredly you may,” and her name was added to the list.

Effie married Nicholas H. Holmes in 1873 in Conneautville. She died Apr 4, 1902 in Braddock, PA. She is buried with her husband, Nicholas, in Conneautville Cemetery. They had four children: Grace, Ralph, Caroline, and William.
