Lewis C. Shaffer and Caroline Miller Shaffer of Dry Ridge (Mt. Tabor), Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.

Lewis C. Shaffer, born 27 Apr 1840, in Dry Ridge, (Mt. Tabor), Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. He died on 22 Feb 1925, at the home of his son, Oliver J. Shaffer, near Mayport, PA. He served in the Civil War as a Private 2nd class, Co. G, 78th Regiment. He too served as a Private in Capt. David C. Cook's Co. G, 78th Regiment of Pa. Vol. He was 6 ft. tall, dark complexion, hazel colored eyes, black hair, and was a farmer. He was the son of Christian Shaffer and Magdalena Farringer Shaffer.

He married first - on 10 Jul 1862, to Caroline Miller born 6 Aug 1842, also in Dry Ridge, PA. She died 29 Jun 1913, in Dry Ridge, at their home. She was the daughter of Christian Miller and Catharine Mohney Miller.

Upon Caroline's death, Lewis C. Shaffer then met, and married Phoebe Ann Hilliard Hopkins Zufall and they moved to Timblin, PA.
