Martha Ellen Calhoun Carlson

Martha was born in Brockway, Jefferson Co., PA in 1899 and died there in 1982. She was a sister to Olive Calhoun Anderson & Edna Calhoun Wingard.
Martha was also a schoolteacher like her sisters. Her first teaching job paid $45 a month. She taught grades one through eight. The boys in her class carried coal for the pot-bellied stove and the girls stayed after school to help sweep and clean up.
