Rev. Forest H. Hawkins

Rev. Forest H. Hawkins

Reverend Forest H. Hawkins, born February 5, 1899 in Butler Springs, Alabama to Tate and Janie Bryd-Hawkins, is credited as the pioneering preacher of The Church Of God In Christ who brought the Pentecostal message to Aliquippa (then known as Woodlawn) PA., in 1919; as a young evangelist preaching on street corners. His first convert, Mrs. Julia Drake invited the young evangelist to conduct services in her home on Wykes Street; this was the humble birth of The First Church Of God In Christ; which today is a world renown ministry known as "The Church In The Round".

This photo is a re-composition from the recollection of The Late Reverend Oshea Vreen, Sr. of Aliquippa, who as a young man met Hawkins. The portrait was created by Mr. Arnold Edwards from Quinn Chapel AME Church of Donora, PA.

Submitted by Reverend Leslie Jerome Dallas - Historian For The Church Of God In Christ- Western Penna.
