The Church in Mjöbäck is where John Benson and his family attended. Benjamin John Benson, born 29 Dec 1862 in Övre Ljungvik, Mjöbäck, Älvsborgs Iän, Svenljunga, Västra Götaland, Sweden; died 8 Apr 1937 in New Castle, Lawrence Co., PA.
The lovely old church overlooks the gravesites of John B. Benson's parents, Bengt Carl Bengtsson and Johanna Johansdotter. The church inside is painted in white with mostly sky blue trim and gold and rose. It is very lovely and clean. The church or kyrka is Lutheran and it seems that in about 1600 the king decided that the then Catholic churches should all become Lutheran. And so they did. The church continued to have power over the population until modern times. For instance, if Bengt and Johanna didn't walk several miles to this church every Sunday, regardless of the weather, it would be announced in church. In 1800 if you tried to worship differently, you were considered crazy and could be put in an insane asylum.
