Svenson Farm

Svenson Farm

The farm in Tvååker, Sweden is owned by the descendants of Swen Bengtsson, a farmer who was married to Augusta Charlotta Benson's sister Sofia. The they had 12 children. Everyday Augusta walked the mile or so from the Andersson farm to see her sister.

Joanna and Bengt Carl Bengtsson lived after they married in Mossode (which means moss waste). It is now a pile of rocks in a pretty forest, which had been fields a hundred years ago. It was explained that basically they were squatting on someone else's land, which was permitted. But they had nothing of their own and no hope for their two sons, John, and Sven his younger brother. John and Sven left home when they were 18 and 15 to be farmhands, which was common practice in those days (1882). Parent couldn't afford to keep their children so they hired them out as farmhands. John worked at the farm of Sven and Sofia Bengtsson.
