My mother worked their and my grandfather used to take me there on our walks around town. Great memories of my hometown!
My Father was Jacob R.
My Father was Jacob R. Smith. He was born and raised in El Campo. He spoke often of his friend, Mr. Halamicek. Must be from the same Halamicek family.

The man on the right is my grandfather, Kinney (K.F.) Halamicek, and the man on the left is most likely John Wolf, one of the pharmacists.
As a young girl I remember
As a young girl I remember going to Halamicek's to enjoy a cherry coke and potatoe chips with my cousin. Also I remember my mom telling me that this store did not allow African American patrons and even MExican patrons. I remember that the local movie theater "the Normana" did not allow African Americans or Mexican Americans to sit at the bottom. They could only sit in the balcony. I'm glad things have changed.
