Main Street 1940

My favorite store as a youngster was Ms. Kleenmans City Cigar Store which had hundreds of comic books and candy besides the cigars! Also newspapers from everywhere! During WWII she collected from everyone their foil wrapping from gum and candy. Later after the war we learned that a lot of this was used to jam German radar. The lead plane in a flight would drop all of this foil, called "chaf", which played havoc on the radar! You see her store right on the corner to the right.
