Willie Hawley and Grat Compton were cousins who lived right along the Virginia-West Virginia state line near Bluefield, Willie in Mercer County WV and Graff in Tazewell County Virginia. This is obviously a staged event for a fun picture. The time period is circa 1920.

Compton Name
I believe the name should be Grat or Gratt rather than Graff. The old handwriting is hard to decipher. After a second look I think this is what the name should be.
