USS Eugene

USS Eugene

This is a photo of USS Eugene (later USCGC Eugene). Photo belonged to Edward Grayson Gerdes who served on Eugene on North Atlantic Weather Station Patrol for the US Coast Guard right after World War II.

Edward related that the Eugene cracked at the keel due to ice/cold stress and that the crew had to fight to get her back to port while lightening the ship the entire way.
