M. E. Brassfield General Store and Gas Station, East Olympia, WA 1948

M. E. Brassfield General Store and Gas Station, East Olympia, WA 1948

M. E. Brassfield general store and gas station. It was taken in about 1948.

It is located in East Olympia WA, about 10 miles from downtown Olympia.

Standing in front are my two sisters, Coralie and Alice Brassfield, ages about 8 & 6.

There are two gas pumps, regular and ethyl, that had to be pumped up after each use. Also three old oil drums that had to be cranked into a one quart oil can with a drop down spout.

The vehicles are a 1948 Mercury (new at that time), and a 1941 Hudson (I think). Don't know about the other one.

I was raised in this building, it had four bedrooms upstairs and we lived in the building on the right side (as you face it).

This store was owned by my father and mother.

We lived there from 1943 to 1952. The store also contained the East Olympia Post Office.
