John Hewitt b.1820 d.1900, was a farmer and Terra Alta WV, Preston County. Married Catherine Stump 1843. John served in the Civil war with the 6th WV Cavalry Co E. Captured at Moorfield WV, Nov 27th 1864. Hhe wa sent to Libby Prision In Richmond VA. He was released in February 1865, returned home and worke dhis farm until his death in 1900.
