WT Austin English, Mary Annette English Beall, Mariah Louisa English Long, and Eliza Jane English Hilling. This photograph was probably taken in Greene County, OH prior to the family's departure for Hutchinson, KS in 1885. Austin was seventeen years old.

William M. English> David Scott English> WT Austin English.

This is the home of Austin and Hester English… Hutchinson, KS circa 1901, about the time that Austin bought a prominent corner lot on South Main to use as the site of his new carriage shop. Later Frank Thompson joined the firm and Thompson & English became possibly the largest carriage building enterprise in Kansas at the time. Around 1915 the carriage shop was driven out of business by the automobile trade and Austin started a new career as a millwright/mechanic for the Carey Salt Co.

In the yard with their dog is Harriett, Merritt, and Minot English; three of Austin and Hester’s four children.

Mariah Louisa Kendall English

Mariah Louisa Kendall English was born in Pittsburgh, PA and married there in 1853 at the age of twenty. Three of her daughters were married in Xenia, Greene County, OH. She outlived her husband by thirty-one years and passed away in Hutchinson, KS 1918.

David Scott English

David Scott English was born in PA, Westmoreland County, in a township known as an "Irish settlement." By 1840 the family had moved a short distance northward to Armstrong County, probably farming near Spring Church, PA. In 1844 they were in Allegheny City, present-day Pittsburgh's North Side. In 1856 DSE and his family moved to Davenport, Iowa soon after the Rock Island Bridge was built over the Mississippi. Later the family was in Xenia, OH for seventeen years where three daughters were married. David Scott and his younger brother listed their occupation as blacksmiths on several occasions. Westmoreland County, PA> Allegheny City, PA> Davenport, Iowa> Greene County, OH 1868> and Hutchinson, KS 1885.

In Ohio and Kansas, David's younger brother lived in the adjoining county.

He was accidentally injured and died seven days later. "On last Wednesday evening while alighting from a moving street car at the corner of Main Street and Second Avenue, Mr. DS English of the firm of English & Goodin, of the Hutchinson Carriage Factory, slipped and fell, sustaining a fracture on the left hip and pelvic bones. He was taken to his home, corner of Second Avenue and Poplar Street. Dr. Klippell was called, but his injuries were of such a character that at this writing very slight hopes are entertained of his recovery." Hutchinson News, June 1887.

Pernecy Robinson and William Richard Love, my wife's great grandparents.

Pernecy Robinson was born 3 September 1857, Ackerman, Choctaw Co., Mississippi, and passed away 30 November 1930, Hutchinson, Reno Co., Kansas.

William Richard Love was born 10 April 1839, in South Carolina. And ended his life on 14 June 1921, Partridge, Reno Co., Kansas.

Helga "Bootz" F. Chenoweth, born 16 June 1907, in Partridge, Reno County, Kansas, USA, to Herbert Leslie Chenowerth and Anna Generia Love Chenoweth, and passed away 30 November 1986, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, USA.

Helga was married to Loren J. Brown, 6 September 1931, Newton, Harvey County, Kansas, USA.

Not known for sure where picture was taken, but Hutchinson, KS would be a good bet. Picture was taken about 1915.

Helga is a first cousin, once removed to the my wife.
