Edward Martin Extrom (bef 1940)

Ed was born in Johnsonburg, Elk Co., PA in 1886 and died in the explosion at the Hercules Powder Plant in Kevil, Morris Co., NJ in 1940. His two sons, Charles E. & James were also working there but excaped. Charles later was also killed in an explosion at the same plant in 1963.

Edward is my paternal grandmother (Rosey Elmira Extrom Cox)'s younger brother.

My paternal grandparents. Charles was born in Canada in 1879 & died in St. Marys, Elk Co., PA in 1946. Rose was born in Johnsonburg, Elk Co., PA in 1884 & died in Emporium, Cameron Co., PA in 1952.

Granpa & Grandma Cox had 13 children, three of whom are still living as of today (June 2012). One daughter died in 2008 at the age of 103. Another daughter still lives in Florida ta the age of 102.

Grandpa Cox was a baker and I have a newspaper article that said he baked the cake for their a large family get together in 1940 that was 8 tiers high! Sounds like a wedding cake but you would have to have a large cake to feed 13 children and their families!

My uncle Bob was born in 1918 in Emporium, Cameron Co., PA and died in 1998 in Columbia, Tolland Co., CT

I only met him once in my life.

Elmer was born in Ridgway, Elk Co., PA in 1884 and died there in 1975. Signe was born in Emporium, Cameron Co., PA in 1886 and died in Risgway in 1954. She was the daughter of Anton & Anna Charlotte Nord Lundin. She was my husband's first cousin twice removed.

John Henry & Edith E Anderson Hathaway

John Henry Hathaway was born in Emporium, Cameron Co., PA in 1894 and died there in 1968. Edith Anderson was born in 1898 in Elk Co., PA and died in Emporium in 1998.

Edithnwas a daughter of Charles Afred & Ebba Sofia Nord Anderson. She was my husband's first cousin twice removed.

St. Charles Hotel, Emporium, PA

The St. Charles Hotel in Emporium, Cameron Co., Pa, was located at the east end of town.

Florence Abbott, my grandmother, used to run the hotel.

The hotel was demolished about 1963.
