Miles Herbert Gilliland was born 16 Apr 1904 in Pymatuning Township, Mercer County, to William Wood Gilliland and his wife, Margaret Ella Schell/Shell. He was married to Opal M. Kinsell.

He died 30 Oct 1980 in Youngstown, Mahoning Co., Ohio, and is buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Hermitage.
