Jeremiah W. Hogan, telegrapher and railroad station agent on Ohio Southern, now called Detroit, Toledo, and Irontown from age 16 until age 36. Cashier of Iron Bank and later owner of variety and book store in Wellston, Ohio. Visited Ireland in 1900. Reported Dennis and Deborah Hogan, his grandparents are buried in grave adjacent to father of John L. Sullivan, the fighter. He married Addie Mae Kirkendall. Jeremian William was born in Washington TWP in 1866 and deceased August 3, 1946. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery, in Wellston, Ohio. More: Jeremiah Hogan to say the least had a very sensitive brain. At age of 13 he taught algebra in the in the Wellston High School. At age of 16 he learned to send and receive the telegraph code in three weeks and accepted a job with the railroad as a telegrapher. The Cincinnati Enquirer sent a reporter to Wellston to verify some of the feats Jeremiah could perform. A full page story in the Enquirer was published. Some of these feats included receiving a message at 55 words per minute while talking to the reporter, or receiving a message by electrical shocks and watching a freight train go by and then writing down from memory the serial number of each car in order of passing. He covered the 1900 Democratic Convention by telegraph from Chicago, his report coming out in light written in english at Fountain Square. As a general rule he could work 100 mathmetical problems while a good mathematician was working one problem. He was equally adept in history.
