Laughlin Duncan Dallas

L. D. (Laughlin Duncan) Dallas was born December 25, 1828 in Ohio, and died January 18, 1894 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., Wisconsin. He married Mary Ellen Gardner in 1850 in Ohio, daughter of Solomon Garnder and Ellen Rogers. She was born September 15, 1827 in Bloomington, Delaware, and died January 13, 1907 in Appleton, Outagamie Co., Wisconsin.

He traveled with the Gardner family (his in-laws) from Ohio. Laughlin Dallas and Solomen Gardner Jr. both walked from Fond du Lac to Appleton, rather than pay $1.50 for a ride, and on reaching the town found they had arrived before the rest of the party, the roads being so muddy that driving was slower than walking. This was found in the Commemorative Biographical Record for Outagamie County.

L. D. Dallas served as a private in Company G, 44th Infantry Regiment Wisconsin. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton, WI.
